Judge of the Dead: The Soul Reaper's Apprentice

When death row inmate Jiang Chen was executed, he expected either nothingness or hell. He didn't expect a job offer. The Ten Judges of Diyu — the Chinese underworld — are understaffed. They need someone alive enough to chase escaped souls back to the mortal realm, but dead enough to cross the veil. Jiang Chen becomes a Soul Reaper: hunting rogue spirits by night, pretending to be a living human by day, and slowly discovering that his own death sentence wasn't justice — it was a setup by someone very much alive.
